Outsource Email
Solution FAQ
|
|
- How do I
create an email account for each of my users?
By accessing http://corpmail.pacific.net.sg and clicking on
the User Administration link, you can manage your user accounts.
In the Administration page, there is an Add User Button. Click
on the Add User button and it will prompt you to key in a
username and password for the new user. You have to also decide
on how much disk space you would like to allocate to that user
including any Mail Alias if necessary. Once the account is
created, the user can access his email account immediately.
- If my
user loses his/her password, how can I reset for them?
The administrator can reset passwords for users through the
User Administration Web Interface at http://corpmail.pacific.net.sg.
Simply by clicking on the modify button for the particular user
and keying in a new password will immediately overwrite the old
password.
- How much
hard disk space should I allocate to each user?
The basic plan comes with 100MB of disk space and if
required, additional disk space in 50MB increments can be
purchased. It is recommended that you allocate at least 2MB of
disk space for each user. You can always change their disk space
quota as and when you wish to or when there is a need for them
to accept file attachments larger than their disk space quota.
How much of disk space to be allocated to each user lies solely
at the Administrator's discretion.
- What are
the POP3 and SMTP settings for my email clients?
For Outsource Email Solution, in order to download and read your
emails using your normal email clients, eg Eudora or Outlook
Express, you need to configure your POP3 server to
po.yourowndomain and your SMTP server to smtp.yourwondomain.
- What is
Mail Alias? And how do I create them?
Mail aliases are basically alternate email addresses
pointing to a single mail box. For example, if I have an email
address at abc@abc.com.sg, I can also have efg@abc.com.sg
pointing to the same mail box. Therefore, efg@abc.com.sg is Mail
Alias to abc@abc.com.sg. Only the Administrator can create Mail
Aliases. By using the simple Web Interface, the Administrator
can modify the email settings of users, including the creation
of mail aliases.
- How can
my users change their passwords?
Using the self-administered Web Interface for Email
Administration, users can change their passwords. A link to
Email Administration is provided at http://corpmail.pacific.net.sg
. Alternatively, the Administrator can change user passwords
through the link to User Administration at the same web site
address.
- How do I
administer all my email accounts (Create, Modify or Delete)?
Using an easy-to-use Web Interface, the Administrator can
create, modify, suspend, re-activate, delete accounts and manage
mailing lists without the need of any technical knowledge. All
that is required, is an Internet connection and access to the
Administration web site at http://corpmail.pacific.net.sg with
your Domain Name and password. On that page, there will be 2
links, one of which is for the User Administration and the other
is for users to access their emails on the Web, change their
passwords, forward emails and set vacation messages. The Web
Interface is simple to use, all functions are just a click away
from completion.
- Why have
some features been removed?
In our efforts to upgrade our Outsource Email services to a
more user-friendly interface. We have removed certain features
for the New Outsource Email. Site usage has been replaced with
threshold notification. We have also improved security by
implementing a one-administrator-for-each-domain policy.
Thirdly, the default administrator account has been removed to
allow better allocation of disk space resources.
- What is
Outsource Email Solution?
Outsource Email Solution is a service that provides your
company with a Virtual Email Server, and all the benefits and
capabilities of a Mail Server at a fraction of the cost of
setting up an actual Mail Server. Outsource Email Solution
provides you the benefits of a self-administered Email Solution
just for your employees and/or customers to use on a shared
email server.
- What are
some exciting features of the new Outsource Email Solution?
Advanced features such as having the option of forwarding
and storing a copy of your email are now customizable by the
user. There are also now different methods for configuring your
vacation messages. In addition, users can set quota thresholds
on their accounts, thus enabling the system to notify them when
their mailboxes are full or upon reaching the threshold set by
the user. Accessing your email has never been any easier with
our implementation of web-mail for all accounts. Users can
read/create/delete their emails all from their browsers anytime,
anywhere.
- Why is
there an error when I try to add a certain userid, email alias
or mailing list name? The system rejects the addition or
modification even when I do not have an entry in my user list.
Why is that so? How can I rectify it?
Each time a new user is created, an email account bearing
his/her userid will be created. For example, when I add a new
account with the userid “john” under the domain abc.com, an
email account john@abc.com will be created. Thus when you create
an email alias john@abc.com, the system will reject this, as
john@abc.com would have already been created. The same applies
for the creation of mailing lists. Creating a mailing list name
“sales” would create sales@abc.com, the word “sales”
cannot be used in future for a userid or as an email alias,
until of course when the mailing list “sales” is deleted. To
sum it all, do remember that the userid, email alias and mailing
list name cannot be the same.
- Can I
forward emails to another account?
Users can access their emails via their web browsers when
they are connected to the Internet, thus eliminating the need to
forward their emails. However, they can choose to forward their
emails to other accounts. There are two ways of setting email
forwarding. This option can be activated by the user himself or
by the Administrator. The user can go to the Email
Administration page via http://corpmail.pacific.net.sg and set
the forward email option under preferences after he logins.
Alternatively, he can ask the Administrator to set it for him
through the User Administration. The Administrator has to first
select the user before modifying his settings. 3 Forwarding
email addresses are allowed for each account.
- Is there
an auto-reply vacation message? How do I set it up?
The user can create a vacation message under preferences
after he logins at the Email Administration Page. A link to
Email Administration is provided at http://corpmail.pacific.net.sg.
- If I
already have a list of users with email using my company domain
on another mail server, can I still use this service?
Yes you can. However, in order to ensure smooth migration to
this service, a few steps must be taken. Firstly, in your DNS
settings, the MX records must point to mxcorp.pacific.net.sg,
our Outsource Email Server. Secondly, an account must be set up
for the Outsource Email Solution and all users with email
address of your company domain must be created on the account
set up by Pacific Internet Limited Outsource Email Solution.
Email clients must also be configured to po.yourowndomain for
POP3 server settings and smtp.yourowndomain for SMTP server
settings. If all these are done in the right order, smooth
migration should not be an issue.
- I am
using Netscape Communicator 4.5x and 4.6x as my email client and
I cannot seem to login. Why is this so? How do I resolve this?
Problem:
The Outsource Email Solution requires users to login using their
email address "username@domain".
Communicator seems to remove the text after the "@"
character when logging in to the mail server. For instance, if
the user name is "john@pacific.net.sg", Communicator
tries to use only "john" as the user name.
Solution:
By default, Communicator will not allow the "@"
character in the user name and neither will most mail servers.
There is an advanced preference setting in Communicator 4.5 and
higher which will allow Communicator to send user names which
include an "@" character to the mail server. The
following instructions will help you make this configuration:
- Close
Communicator.
- Find
your Communicator user profile folder. Normally, it is found
in: C:Program FilesNetscapeUsers{your profile name}
- Locate
the prefs.js file in your user profile folder and click on it
once to select it.
- Go
to the Edit menu and select Copy.
- Paste
the copy in another location on disk as a backup of the
original file.
- Open
Windows Notepad. (click the Windows Start button and select
Programs, Accessories, and Notepad.)
- In
Notepad, go to the File menu and choose Open.
- Open
the prefs.js file located in your Communicator user profile
folder.
- Add
the following new line at the bottom:
user_pref("mail.allow_at_sign_in_user_name", true);
- From
the File menu, select Save to save the changes you have made.
- Go
to the File menu and select Exit to exit Notepad.
- The
next time you try to get mail, Communicator will allow you to
use the "@" character in your user name.
- What
features are available in Webmail?
In addition to common Webmail features such as the ability
to receive and send emails, forwarding of messages, vacation
messages and signatures; Pacific Internet's Webmail for
Corporate Customers includes many advanced features such as
address book (up to 200 addresses), folders (up to 25) for easy
email management, spell check, threshold notification, search
function and user display preferences. Click
